Wat Pho has been expanded and renovated during the reign of King Rama III followed by another restoration in 1982.
The most famous attraction at Wat Pho in Bangkok is a magnificent statue of reclining Buddha. This image of Buddha extends 46 meters in length and 15 meters high when it is fully gold plated. Eyes of the statue and the soles of the feet are embedded with mother of pearl. The soles of three meters long are beautifully decorated, displaying 108 features sacred symbols of the Buddha. This statue of reclining Buddha is one of the images the largest Buddha in Thailand.
Wat Pho is well known for more than 1000 Buddha images of housing, where some of them even date back to capitals at the beginning of Thailand, Sukothai and Ayutthaya. In the temple premises that you will encounter striking artistic entries coronation roofs and gables. You can also meet imposing stone sculptures that dot the compound. The spire of the temple itself is a work of astonishing, swarming patterns in relief exciting.
The more you explore Wat Pho you'll be more inspired and captivated. You will be fascinated by the panorama woven by many chedis, tapering structures of various sizes. What's more each Chedi is surrounded designs richly decorated with flowers. Inside the hall of the temple, you will see More than 300 bronze Buddha statues. And just outside the room are marble plaques bearing Ramakien part of the legend, the national epic Thai based on the Indian Ramayana fame.
Even before the temple was built, this area was notorious for drugs and traditional Thai massage. In the mid 20th century, a Thai medical school was built next to the temple to promote of traditional healing.
