Who are the Chinese?
Of every five people in the world, it is Chinese.
There are officially 56 different ethnic groups on mainland China. The largest ethnic group in China is the " Han ", which consists of approximately 92 per cent of the total population. Many other ethnic groups in China have been cultural equivalent in Han identity, which has greatly expanded the size of the Han population. However, these assimilations were usually incomplete and vestiges of the Aboriginal language and culture are still preserved in different regions of China. Because of this, many within the Han identity have maintained different linguistic and cultural traditions. Simultaneously, many ethnicities have also dramatically shaped Han culture, eg the Manchurian clothing became the new "Chinese" fashion after the 17th century, replacing earlier Han styles of clothing. The groups have indeed learned each other to create distinctive Chinese culture.
It is very difficult to make a declaration of what China. " title = "Chinese nation"> Chinese nation "in the modern term is now used to describe a concept of Chinese nationality that transcends divisions ethnic. Although most Chinese can speak the common language called Putonghua, or Mandarin as, but integration is not complete. By example, in the study of wage determination of Chinese workers by the official government statistics of 1998, ethnic minorities have won 4.8 percent less than the Han in urban centers. Even among the Han, there are regional biases. Because of differences in dialects that speak, the kind of food they eat and their social customs, living in Guangdong Hans (southern China) can be purchased with prejudices against the non Guangdong, called "northerners". Hans living in Shanghai can be bought with great pride and prejudices against other non-Shanghai. However, all groups of Chinese to live in peace together, consider themselves Chinese, and most are proud to be Chinese in particular in these two decades.
