I found an Indian artifact. It's a nice pendant belly fat culture of poverty point. What is it worth?
It is worthless because it has no provenance. When people go out and "found" objects, then try to sell them, they become virtually worthless because it is no way to trace where it came from and even if it is a real artifact and not a fake. The market is so artifacts flooded with fakes and copies (and those of good quality at this) that the songs tend to be not worth much. Their market value is based more on aesthetics as their object status. If you do indeed find an owl pendant pot belly and I remember the exact location of this discovery, maybe you should call your state archaeologist office and record the find. They can not take it away from you (if you could consider donating for a museum exhibition or study), and the sites of the recording is useful for professionals who seek to learn more about the past, and may also prevent the site from being destroyed if the developers want to build in the region.
